SAN FRANCISCO — March 1st, 2021 — we are proud to announce record-breaking February NFT and LAND sales with a total of $2,8M USD (11.9M $SAND) sold inside its metaverse. These sales mark the highest monthly revenue in the history of The Sandbox. The majority of those sales were coming from our two LAND sales taking place in February, raising the total LAND value to $37M USD.

LAND buyers had an opportunity to purchase virtual real estate inside the metaverse in two public sale events hosted in February, at which a total of 2,352 LANDs were available through The Sandbox website or OpenSea. Each LAND is part of a finite world, consisting of a maximum of 166k LANDs, where users will be able to host games or social experiences in the future. Through the implementation of Play-to-Earn mechanics, LAND owners will be able to generate revenue and monetize their gameplay and experience through various blockchain-based features.

The first LAND sale event took place with CoinMarketCap as a partner, which was sold out after less than 20 minutes and generated a total of ~2 million USD, making it the biggest LAND sale event in metaverse history. Later in February the second public LAND sale took place, with Pranksy, MetaKovan, and Yield Guild Games as partners, who each invested in LAND themselves. This sale was sold out after less than a minute.

Why is LAND increasing?

We are building a unique virtual world where players can build, own, and monetize their gaming experiences using NFTs (non-fungible tokens) and SAND, the main utility token. Each of those unique experiences or NFTs can interact with a LAND, which can be used to host experiences, such as games, concerts, hangouts, or anything you could imagine! Since LAND is finite and we’ll only ever have a given amount, its value is increasing as it is becoming more scarce. As of today, we’ve sold around 45% of our total map.

Our vision is to offer a deeply immersive metaverse in which virtual worlds and games will be created collaboratively and without a central authority. The Sandbox has secured over 60 partnerships, including The Smurfs, Care Bears, Atari, CryptoKitties, and Shaun the Sheep, to build a fun, creative “play-to-earn” platform that offers virtual worlds and game experiences owned and created by players. The play-to-earn model gives players true ownership of anything they collect in the game, allowing them to trade digital assets with other players (including outside the game on other websites), transfer them to other players, or even resell them.
