Blockbuster Sale of Gold.com Tops Latest DNJournal Chart While .AI Continues to Shine

There was no doubt about what domain would be topping our latest bi-weekly sales chart after George Kirikos reported the eye-popping $8,515,000 price paid for Gold.com in March on his FreeSpeech.com blog last week. The deal, brokered by Hilco Digital Assets Managing Director Andrew Miller (who also happens to be the subject of our current Cover Story), also takes over the top spot on our Year to Date Top Sales Chart and it ranks among the 10 highest publicly reported cash domain sales of all time.

We've all heard the expression that something very valuable is "worth its weight in gold." If anyone doubts that is true of a great domain

name, consider that this one, from a weight standpoint, sold for the equivalent of 243 pounds of gold! To calculate that, all we had to do was look up today's gold price (just under $2400 per troy ounce) at the site of precious metals dealer JM Bullion, the very company that made the wise decision to purchase this magnificent asset.

While the Gold.com sale may have briefly taken eyes off the red hot .ai ball, it didn't slow the ccTLD's torrid sales streak. Led by The $104,900 sale of #2 Crew.ai reported by Namecheap, .ai piled up five of the top ten entries and six spots overall on our latest all-extension Top 20 Sales Chart. Another hot ccTLD, .io, took the #3 spot with a $70,000 sale of Mind.io that was jointly handled by Joe Uddeme at NameExperts.com (representing the buyer) and Efty.com (representing the seller). To show you just how dominant .ai and .io have been this year, look at our YTD Top Country Code Top Sales Chart (the second chart on the page linked to) and you will see that every one of the top ten sales in that category have been either .ai or .io.

On the bi-weekly chart the .coms still narrowly out-pointed the ccTLDs (10 entries to 9) with the .coms getting top 10 support from #4 SocialExchange.com at $50,000 (sold through GoDaddy by Bruce Sadowitz) and #9 Lumeno.com, sold for $25,000 at Sedo. NameJet pitched in too with three charted sales on the second half of the honor roll.

The non .com gTLDs obviously ran into some very stiff competition this time around the track but they still secured a pair of spots on the Big Board, both of which were made through Afternic. They collected $23,500 for #10 VVV.net and another $10,000 for #10 (tie) Harmony.cloud.

Country Codes

With the ccTLDs placing nine domains on the all-extension leader board above you have already seen almost half of this group's top sales, led of course by that big six-fire sale of Crew.ai. The highest sale  in this group that you haven't seen yet is the #10 name on our latest bi-weekly Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. That is yet another .ai sale - Alem.ai at $9,900 via Sedo.

Sedo went on to sweep the entire second half of the leader board and 13 of 20 entries overall with a roster than included a nice Swiss domain sale, #11 Inspired.ch at $9,136. Here is how the ccTLDs stacked up for the two weeks ending Sunday, May 12, 2024:

Non .com gTLDs

As noted above, the Non .com gTLDs were led by a pair of five-figure sales made through Afternic - VVV.net at $23,500 and Harmony.cloud at $10,000. Sedo filled the next two slots on our latest Non .Com Top Sales Chart with Catcoin.org at $8,640 and Eclipse.solar at $7,500. GoDaddy then made the top five a top six with $7,000 sales of DTY.vip and Play.club that tied for #5.

We again saw a very diverse couple of weeks in this category's TLD race with 10 different extensions represented on the leader board. Still, .org scored a solid win in the TLD race with seven chart entries, more than double the number of any other extension.

Here is how all of the non .com gTLD leaders stacked up for the two weeks ending Sunday, May 12, 2024:
